win Staffs Parks Division 1 Championship
Congratulations
to Bernard Regan and his team who have clinched the 2004 Staffordshire
Parks Saturday Division 1 Title.
This is the
third time the Club have won this Championship, the previous wins were
in 2000 and 2001.

Westlands
Junior Competition
The Competition was
held on Sunday 12 September 2004.
12 Bowlers took part in
a preliminary series of doubles games from which the top 4 players
would qualify to play in the Final game.
The issue was in doubt
right up to the last end of the preliminaries with most still in with
a chance.
The final result was a
victory for:-
Adam
Jackson and Matt Bailey
against
Greg
Bailey and Tom Matthews

Saturday
Mixed League Trebles
The
Competition was held at Wolstanton Park on Saturday 4th September
2004.
In
the Final, the Fegg Hayes trio of Sue & Graham and Roland Barker
defeated Mavis and John Satterthwaite and John Harvey of Florence
Colliery.
In
the Semi-Final the Fegg Hayes team had accounted for the Westlands
trio of Ann and Roy Griffiths and Tricia Hyatt. |
Visit
of Pen-y-ffordd Bowling Club
In
was great to receive our good friends from Pen-y-ffordd Bowling Club who
visited us on Sunday 15th August.
The
day started in customary fashion with their coach getting lost en
route!!
During
the day 51 bowlers took part in a triples competition which was won by
the Pen-y-ffordd team of Bert Wells, Margaret Jones and Joe O'Shea. In
the final they defeated Tom Emery, Joan Laney and Ann Griffiths of
Westlands.
The
other competition was the annual match for the Jim Spragg Trophy. This
was won by Westlands; this victory was somewhat overdue as it was only
our second success in 14 years of competition! |
Westlands
Ladies Retain Nancy Boulton Trophy
On
Tuesday 17th August, at Dilhorne Recreation, Westlands Ladies
defeated Trent Vale Ladies No 2 in the final of the Nancy Boulton
Trophy. In doing so, they retained the Trophy which they had won
in 2003.
The
winning team was Marie Brain, Pauline Dale, Joan Daniels, Ann Griffiths,
Alison Jackson, Janet Mairs and Margaret Rushworth.

Marie
wins Staffs Junior Ladies Title
Marie Brain
has won the "Staffs Junior Ladies" title for the 3rd time.
At Fenton
Park, on her way to the title, Marie had victories over Laura Hamer 21 -
14, Stacey Brown 21 - 15 and Laura Nugent 21 - 12.
Marie had
previously won this title in 2000 and 2001.
Marie will
now represent Staffordshire (and Westlands) in the All England
Finals on September 5th at Owley Wood (Cheshire).

Staffs
Parks Merits
The final
stages of the Singles Merits were played at Clough Hall Bowling Club on
Sunday 25th July.
Westlands
member, Tony Goldstraw, reached the final with wins over Peter Okonski
and Steve Ridge.
In the Final
Tony lost to 21 - 18 to Jack Dulson, London Road.
This is the
5th time that Tony has been runner-up in this competition, including
final appearances in the last 3 years.
In the Parks
Doubles Final, held at London Road on July 23rd, Nigel Tatton
and John Alcock (Tunstall/Clough Hall) beat the Florence pairing of Phil
Clarke and Roy Perry. |

Our Marie Brain teamed up with
Darren Stanway, Burslem Suburban, to win this competition.
In the Semi -Final they had a 21 -
14 win over Lynn France and Roy Price
In the Final they beat Carol Steele
and Graham Ellis 21 - 19

County
Junior Team
Westlands Juniors
continue to figure prominently on the County scene.
The latest Potteries
& District game was at Biddulph Labour against Cheshire. Matt Hill
and Adam Jackson represented the County and Adam clinched the "Man
of the Match" award with a 21-4 victory.
Marie Brain, Richard
Jenkins, Matt Hill and Adam Jackson have all played for the Parks County
team this season whilst Chris Jenkins and David Hyatt have been selected
as reserves. |

Mixed Doubles
Our Annual Mixed
Doubles Competition was held on Sunday 27 June.
28 Members took part
in a Competition organised by Steve Brain and John Jenkins.
After a "Round
Robin" stage 4 pairs qualified for the Knock-Out stage.
In the Final, which
was played over 9 ends

Tony Goldstraw beat Chris Brain / Ashley Leeming 10 - 7
Allison had
previously won this event in 1994: it was Tony's first success in the
Competition.

In the last 16 Tony beat Steve
Ridge (Trent Vale)
He then accounted for our own
Mick James and in the Semi Final beat John Simpson.

4 Westlands Juniors
Selected for County Team
On 15th June 2003, 4
Westlands juniors, Marie Brain, Adam Jackson, Richard Jenkins and Matt
Sharman, represented the County in the away game at Belvedere Park, East
Midlands. This is thought to be the first occasion where four juniors
from any Club have been chosen to play in a Junior County team. Marie,
Adam and Richard won their matches and so helped the County to an
overall victory.

Burgess Cup Final
The Final of the 2003
Competition was played at Clough Hall Park on Sunday 7th
September
Our Newcastle League No. 1
Team defeated Chesterton Park in a very close contest.
After the first 4 ends
Westlands led by 9 chalks.
This margin was maintained
over the next 2 completed games.
Chesterton players led in
both the final games and the outcome remained in doubt.
The next result saw our
margin reduced to just 4 points and at this point the final
Chesterton player led 20 - 17.
Kevin Stonier then scored a
match winning double which gave us a winning margin of just 2
points (146 - 144).
Congratulations to Ron
Laney (Captain) and all the team on winning the Burgess Cup.

Success in Newcastle League Champion
of Champions
In the 2003 Competition, held at
Clough Hall Park our Club representatives both won their Divisional
competition.
Kevin Gee won the Division 1 Award
and
Ashley Leeming won the Division 3 Award
Congratulations to Kevin and Ashley on
this tremendous double which rounded off an excellent season for
our Newcastle League squad.
